Begin with the decision marketing must influence

“Increase awareness” is difficult to manage without defining whose awareness matters and what should change afterwards. A useful objective names the audience, desired action, period and commercial reason.

Separate leading and commercial indicators

Reach, views and clicks show delivery and response. Qualified enquiries, pipeline, sales, retention and margin show business value. Both are useful, but they answer different questions.

Create a measurement chain

  • Document the baseline before activity starts.
  • Define campaign-specific URLs, forms, codes or CRM fields.
  • Record lead source and lead quality consistently.
  • Connect sales outcomes back to campaigns where evidence permits.
  • Compare performance with total production and media cost.

Use attribution with appropriate caution

Customers may see several messages before acting. Platform-reported conversions should not automatically be added together. Compare analytics, sales records and customer evidence, and disclose where attribution remains uncertain.

Report for decisions

A useful report explains what happened, why it may have happened, what remains uncertain and what the team should do next. Data becomes valuable when it changes a decision.

Frequently asked question

No. Reach is a delivery measure. It becomes commercially meaningful when connected to audience quality, response and the intended business outcome.
